Sunday Services

We meet at:

Christ Church Baptist
The Nap
Kings Langley
Hertfordshire
WD4 8ET
United Kingdom

There is limited parking available on the site, but a public car park is available to the side of the church.

We meet for a service of Christian worship on Sundays at 10:30am. All are welcome to join us. If you are new to Kings Langley and looking for a church, do check us out; we’d love to see you. Or if you haven’t ‘done’ church for years, if at all, and are just intrigued by what we all get up to on a Sunday, you would be very welcome too.

On this page, we have tried to answer some of the questions people might have about what to expect, but if we have missed anything, please do Contact Us for more information.

What happens when I arrive?

You will be welcomed at the door by one of the deacons. Bibles are available but the words for the songs are projected onto screens at the front of the church.

What happens in the service?

Our services contain elements that are common to most Christian churches, including singing, prayers, readings, and a sermon. We usually stand to sing and sit for the remainder of the service.

We sing a variety of hymns and songs, including the very modern as well as the traditional. These are accompanied by our music group or backing tracks, although most weeks we have live music.

Baptists do not have a fixed liturgy, so our services include a variety of written and extempore prayers. We will usually have one or two readings from the Bible, and then a talk of about 20 minutes to explore their relevance for us today. This may be supported by PowerPoint slides, relevant music or video clips.

Overall, the service lasts about an hour, or an hour and a quarter when Communion is included.

What is Communion?

On the first Sunday morning of the month, our services include a celebration of The Lord’s Supper, often called Holy Communion. This is an act of remembrance of a meal which Jesus shared with his disciples on the evening before his death. As a recreation of this meal, we share bread and (non-alcoholic) wine, and all those who love Jesus Christ and are seeking to follow him are invited to take part. Those who do not wish to partake are welcome to stay, and just let the bread and wine pass by when offered.

Will I be expected to sing?

Our services include congregational hymns and songs, which you are invited to join in with. But there is no requirement for anyone to sing if you would rather not.

What about after the service?

We hope that you will be able to stay around after the service to chat to those who have been sitting near you, or to join us in the café for tea and coffee. However, if you need to get away quickly, that is also fine. If you are visiting us for the first time, please do sign the visitors' book in the entrance lobby. If you have been particularly affected by the service and would like someone to pray with you, someone is available to do so after the morning service.

We look forward to welcoming you!

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival, and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of songs and hymns, prayers, Bible reading and a sermon. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

After the service, we serve tea, coffee, squash and biscuits in the church hall. It is a great way to meet people or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

What about my kids?

At the moment, we are developing our children, youth and families work. We have strong midweek groups for children and young people, and are working towards plans and events to grow and develop our Sunday ministry.

We do have a small group that goes out every week.

The first part of our service is focused on all ages.

Leadership

MINISTER: Matt Powell
MINISTER: Matt Powell
Matt joined us here at Christ Church Baptist in October 2025. Matt comes with his wife Tash, and they have two grown up children living in Brentford and Southampton. Matt has been a Baptist minister for 25 years and is passionate about seeing the church being a place for all people to be welcomed, loved and supported; with a passion to share God's amazing love and grace to all those in the community.

In his spare time Matt loves to watch Southend United his football team, enjoys walking and loves cakes and so is looking forward to tasting the wonders of Kings Langley's baking both in the church and in the local coffee shops.
