Staff and Leadership

Please find below an introduction to our church leaders and members of staff.

Leadership in Baptist churches is shared, local and based on the biblical model of servant leadership. Christ Church is led by a minister who is trained and accredited by the Baptist Union of Great Britain (though currently we are in a gap between ministers) and by deacons, who are elected by the church. (Both 'minister' and 'deacon' are words which have their roots in bible words for 'servant'). They undertake a range of responsibilities and are accountable to the whole church membership through regular church meetings.

MINISTER: Matt Powell   DEACON: Roy Farrant
MINISTER: Matt Powell   DEACON: Roy Farrant (Church Secretary)
Matt joined us here at Christ Church Baptist in October 2025. Matt comes with his wife Tash, and they have two grown up children living in Brentford and Southampton. Matt has been a Baptist minister for 25 years and is passionate about seeing the church being a place for all people to be welcomed, loved and supported; with a passion to share God's amazing love and grace to all those in the community.

In his spare time Matt loves to watch Southend United his football team, enjoys walking and loves cakes and so is looking forward to tasting the wonders of Kings Langley's baking both in the church and in the local coffee shops.

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival, and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of songs and hymns, prayers, Bible reading and a sermon. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

After the service, we serve tea, coffee, squash and biscuits in the church hall. It is a great way to meet people or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

What about my kids?

At the moment, we are developing our children, youth and families work. We have strong midweek groups for children and young people, and are working towards plans and events to grow and develop our Sunday ministry.

We do have a small group that goes out every week.

The first part of our service is focused on all ages.
